Not sure when or how it happen, but between being addicted to something, losing a gross amount of weight and creating some of the best music of our generation (see the video below)
Amy Winehouse became Karl Lagerfeld’s muse. Just looking at his pre-fall collection and the endless streams of beehives floating down the runway, it seems as if the style she’s been chastised for and raked through coals over is fashionable after all.
Lagerfeld’s announcement is more an affirmation though that where fashion is concerned, counter-culture is now pop-culture. Winehouse currently lives in the world of negative press, which in turn is positive press as the songstress does not have a current CD or single being promoted but is still on the tongues of every man, woman and child in the immediate vicinity of music. The case is now very true for fashion as well.
Her detachment from the norm and the rigors of everyday life is fashionable. It’s forward, it’s a car accident that no one will stop talking about and always loves watching, even when the television is off.
The beehives at Lagerfeld’s pre-fall 2008 collection was an extension of Winehouse’s museification. Somehow someway Winehouse has become a muse for the masses in addition being one for Lagerfeld. The alleged drug use and the self-destructive habits aside (more or less) Winehouse’s success, non-standard looks and sultry voice may be what makes 2007’s muse, 2008’s icon.
