Create the look of long slim legs with tights. While opaque are the go-to version of most gals, consider ribbed or textured tights. American Apparel carries them ($32, americanapparelstore.com) in an array of colors
It’s a strong philosophy in the fashion world that shoes can totally, completely and utterly change someone’s look. A simple tee and jeans goes from nay to yay with the right pair of shoes. This season there’s an endless array of shoes to choose from. Fall and winter shoes can be a little difficult to buy because unlike spring and summer, we aren’t showing a lot of skin (because everything goes with skin, right?). During the cooler months, opt for shoes in luxurious fabrics, durable leathers and rich colors. Flats have become a fast staple in everyone’s shoe wardrobe. This season they can be worn to transition from sandals to boots. As the temperature drops, wear them with tights and textured leggings for a fresh look. If you already have the standard black ballet flats, pick something extravagant this fall. Marc by Marc Jacobs’ Suede Flat with Python Trim ($310, eluxury.com) is the perfect alternative to neutral flats. The dark green is fresh, but versatile and the detailing allows the shoe to be worn for better occasions as well as everyday outings. Metallic extras are abundant this season, and flats are good way to play into the trend for day […]
As summer winds down and fall approaches, it seems everyone needs to do the back-to-school shopping ritual. Only instead of Mead spiral notebooks and a pair of cords, we’re looking to things a little more grown-up. From the black trend (shocking, I know!) to layering to oversized bags, Essentials is the place to turn for everything you need this fall. The runways were painted with a sea of black threads for this season. Everyone showed the color of choice in every fabric and cut possible. A favorite thing about black is that no matter how fussy the garment is, the color keeps it clean.Keep it simple, but interesting in Calvin Klein’s Winthroper dress ($990, eluxury.com). The lightweight blend will make for great layering as a base piece. For trousers, look to Dior’s Melody Pant ($810, eluxury.com). The straight leg is obviously huge again this season, and this pant will look equally stunning with a simple tank and chunky sweater or with a blazer. Playing with volume can be tricky when it comes to fashion, but keep in mind the golden rule: always keep either the top of bottom slim, while showcasing the opposite with the fullness of the season.Update the […]
The phrase style icon is essential in the world of fashion. It’s also something that is thrown like the morning newspaper. At every single turn, someone is claiming the label. July is the hottest month of the year, so keep cool by adopting some essential pieces for our favorite style icons to date. Kate Moss A solid decade before the other boho waif made it on the scene; Kate was ruling the runway and the glossy ads. With her perfectly disheveled hair and nonchalant walk, Kate has put skinny jeans on the map and it doesn’t seem that they’re going away any time soon. With their un-pretentious detailing, Loomstate’s Justice Demi Flare, Lake ($170, eluxury.com) is lightweight and not too constraining for those of us with a figure that is…not exactly Kate. Jackie Kennedy- As brilliant as her look was then, it is now. The incomparable Jackie was the guiding light in fashion during her era, and her staples are back in full force thanks to Hollywood starlets. Most memorable are her giant sunglasses, which graced her face from coast to coast during all seasons.Tom Ford captures the easy glamour in his Marissa Sunglasses ($330, eluxury.com). A generous size that […]
This month Essentials brings you extras for men that are easy, luxe and very necessary. Kick your eyewear up a notch this summer. Tom Ford’s Buckley sunglasses ($330, eluxury.com) are as timeless as they are modern. Available in three classic colors, the aviators are a must for any stylish guy, and easy to incorporate into any wardrobe. The plastic frames are smooth and sleek proving that change, when it comes to updated eyewear, can definitely be good. Nothing grabs attention like an amazing timepiece. Bold and strong is the look of the Dior Chiffre Rouge A02 Automatic Chronograph ($3,095, eluxury.com). The stark black dial contrasts the gleaming stainless steel like hockey puck gliding across ice. The progressive design will continue to please for years to come. Maintain your life with the Hugo Boss Parma Wallet ($135, eluxury.com). The sophisticated black leather wallet is simple and functional. Roomy enough to store cards galore, as well as your passport, the wallet is the ultimate accessory for any guy on the go. While belts of all shapes and sizes dominated the runways for women this spring, men can get in on the action as well with Dior’s Plisse Bucket Belt ($305, eluxury.com). The […]
Well, spring is officially here. No more bundling up or layering on. While I and my wardrobe are partial to cold weather months (it’s easiest to channel Kate Moss in that season), spring and summer are my favorite seasons to shop for two things: shoes and makeup. For some reason, I’m completely obsessive about winter clothes. I love hats, scarves, tights, boots, all with an extreme passion and I tend to totally forget about my face. So when the temperature rises, who do you think is stuck with sallow skin and dry feet? The girl so fascinated by her vintage black slouchy boots that she barely took them off all winter. As I look into my closet and realize I once again have “nothing to wear,” I also think about how shopping for sandals and makeup is so much easier. There’s no whining that eye shadows don’t fit, or that lip gloss is running small. The toughest thing is hoping your self-tanner will turn out right, and if it usually doesn’t, don’t fret! That’s why you’re reading this! This month, Essentials brings you the beauty goods that will get you prepped for your spring and summer wardrobe. Anyone who has […]
The shoe craze, to some, is a little out of hand. EVERY woman is wild about shoes. Whether she has the budget of a college freshman or that of a trophy wife, a woman is constantly on the lookout for new shoes. I mean, why not? Since the mid-‘90s when Carrie Bradshaw first took us all shoe shopping, women have become fixated on this accessory that makes or breaks a look. The amazing thing is that whether your stick thin, or a bit curvy, there’s a good chance that when you gain or lose any weight, you’ll still fit into those $400 shoes. This spring, designers (everyone from Imitation of Christ’s Tara Subkoff to Keds) are offering a bucket of fun and flirty options for your feet. So whether you’re spending your entire income tax return on shoes, or just buying one great pair, there’s a good chance there’s something out there that can keep your feel looking cool, even in the hottest months of the year. Wedges were huge last spring and summer and this season they’ve only gotten higher and sexier. Soft neutrals are a nice place to begin if you’re choosing one shoe to buy this year, […]
I am eternally hoping to find articles of clothing or accessories that make an outfit. It’s a weird task, because just when you think you have found things that are going to save you in every fashion emergency you’ll ever have, you find something else that’s just a little better. Take, for example, bags. I adore bags. I know that there are a million and one women who are obsessed with shoes, but it’s my personal belief that for every one of those women, there’s a bag girl. I have a feeling that, should I ever come across this magical article that will complete the look I’ve always been striving for, it will be a bag. But it won’t be. Because you need more than a bag or a shoe to pull together an amazing effortless look that screams chic. So this month, Papierdoll brings you the essentials of the “it girl.” “It girls” are women who wear their clothes. Their clothes don’t wear them. They move with the greatest of ease and they always have what they need on hand. But it never seems like they need much. 1. Big sunglasses– We’ll leave it up to you to choose […]
