The annual LEGENDS celebration is one of the most anticipated and respected trade events where the ‘best of the best’ in design are invited to transform the 67 windows of the showrooms and galleries of the quarter, revealing the essence of what inspires them most. In celebration of this year’s theme, Where Muses Dwell, Nelson will take her inspiration from the iconic Pauline de Rothschild for her creative window display. Iconoclastic, idiosyncratic, individualistic…”le style Pauline” is the American-born aesthete’s legacy of juxtaposing spare/opulent, modern/historic, raw/refined, and mixed with memories, emotion, and scholarship to embody inspired design, timeless style.
“I chose Pauline de Rothschild as my muse because she embodies innovation,” says Nelson, Principal Designer and Managing Director of KMNelson Design, LLC. “Everything Pauline—from the details of the clothes she designed to the pillows, curtains and decorative details on furnishings in her varied homes—was about mix and match and breaking the rules,” adds Nelson. “When porcelain, fine linens and formal floral arrangements ruled tables, Pauline was renowned for her imaginative tablescapes. She would mix papal-quality silver with ceramic dishes placed on Indian bedspread tablecloths, then complete it all with imaginative creations like a sprawling mound of moss embedded with weeds, or miniature forests of herbs individually potted in ancient Chinese blue and white porcelain vessels, making it look effortless, inviting and timeless.”
Pauline de Rothschild’s residences in London, Paris, and Pauillac, were also strikingly original with decor and details that still inspire designers and design devotees today. Spaces were created with an artist’s eye, with every element considered. Similarly, Nelson’s design will showcase de Rothschild’s legacy of mixing and matching materials, periods, styles, and unexpected elements in a two-“room” display evoking the duality of city Pauline and country Pauline. Fabrics and furnishings in the window, including a Niermann Weeks chandelier and two brand new Arte wallpaper designs – one of which is an innovative three-dimensional manufacturing process and the other an inspired take on Chinoiserie – are all available through Egg & Dart.
“We are delighted to partner with a top design talent whose focus on luxury and high style aligns with our own mission of showcasing the industry’s finest home furnishings and designs,” says Robert Allred, General Manager for Egg & Dart. “We look forward to supporting Kristi in her window design that will celebrate and combine her unique aesthetic, Pauline de Rothschild’s legacy, and our brand’s style, vision, and products.”
Throughout this 3-day celebration, highly recognized and celebrated top designers and their work draw top editors and enthusiasts alike to LEGEND’s array of showrooms, panels, cocktail parties, book signings, and receptions.
