It’s hard to be impressed the following Wednesday after fashion week in New York starts. By this time you’ve seen an average of let’s say 40 collections and an average of 30 looks each. By this point you’re on your 1200th look, and still Lupe Gajardo’s Fall 2015 collection brought enough that was different to the table that it could be called refreshing. Gajardo is based out of Santiago Chile. Her background includes studying under Sebastián Errazuriz as well as participating in Berlin Fashion week in 2012. Her inaugural showing at fashion week in New York is focused on a highly artistic aesthetic.
This Fall 2015 collection is replete with knits, (some heavy cable, a beautiful floor length knit in black). She had an interesting take on denim, creating a skirt that was a patchwork quilt of other denim pieces, a spaghetti strapped quasi layered dress a feathered and knit top slender dress, a midriff baring top and skirt in white containing multiple oversized clothes pins. Only Gajardo could make a burlap sac in appearance seem fashionable both as a full length dress and a skirt that falls just below the knee.
