If you’re going to do leather and the entire collection is going to be black, then you’ve just laid down a gauntlet. That gauntlet says that you’re eminently talented and can come up with enough varied looks to carry an entire season based on very few fabrics and very few colors. Did August Getty do that with his Fall 2015 collection? The jury remains out, but we can come up with a verdict in short order. Nearly every dress in this collection is sensual and feminine without being over the top. There’s strength in the leather combinations and its progressive enough that it doesn’t seem dated. When he does veer off of leather, the individual pieces seem to have less impact, but that may be because the leather pieces are done so well. The exception of course is twofold: an embellished sleeveless velvety gown that leaves nearly little to the imagination because of the navel deep plunging neckline and a black mini-layered feather mini dress. Getty will find many takers for individual pieces of his collection because the feminine form is represented well here.
