Mara Hoffman’s Fall 2014 collection is a show of detail in print. The knockoff artists at department stores are going to have a very hard time coming up with anything similar. And in reality they shouldn’t have to, instead, go with the real thing. Hoffman’s collection contained full on print suits. Wow results came in the form of a black and white print suit with detailing in geometric shapes all intersecting with one another. There was also a multi-colored print dress with semi-circle moons and a daringly plunging neckline that is an audience grabber. One of the things I noticed at the show was that their was a commonality among pieces in the collection. One dress was basically the cousin of another. You could see that Hoffman was making a statement in terms of direction for the overall Fall 2014 collection. What was even more striking though is that when she veered off the print direction, you could still see similarity in cuts and overall process. This was definitely a collection to see for students of fashion design to understand process.
