Lee Jean Youn’s collection is a welcome change of pace for fashion week in New York. Reminiscent of collections seen in London, a portion of Youn’ work won’t be a hit with women interested in natural progressions in fashion. That is to say, his 2014 Fall collection is unorthodox to say the least. Bikini tops that are essentially under breast straps with nipple covering bars, asymmetrical short leather skirts, disheveled multi-color print skirts with matching tops all comprise this adventure into the surreal. Youn’s convention is not to be challenged by it and that’s what viewers saw in this collection. It wasn’t so much disjointed as processed to not have a pattern. Will you be wearing a Lee Jean Youn piece for fall, perhaps, but most likely not. This is for the museum, artistry and fantasies of the mind are the topics for this fall 2014 collection.
