Does something as common as denim deserve it’s own show at a high end event like Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York? All things being equal, the answer to that question would be a firm no. But all things are not equal when you’re speaking of the DL 1961 collection. Yes there are the typical jeans in various washes, but then, mid-way through the show, out came embroidered patterned denim with floral patterns in color selections that were impressively ingenious. No, this collection was anything but typical when it came to denim. Yes the DL 1961 Spring 2013 collection contained the straight-fit-skinny-rock-washed-cum-lately items. But overall this collection can be judged more for what it is, and not at all for what it is not. What it is, is a unique approach to denim. It’s not a mold-breaking look when it comes to fit, but when it comes to finish, the collection is unique. Notable items from the collection include a seer-sucker inspired item as well as a disco-like floral pattern dark blue jean. On the mens side there was a very unique yellow denim pant that wore excellent on the model primarily because it did not make him seem any less masculine wearing a somewhat flamboyant color. Dressed down or up, DL 1961, provided a solid collection for the denim aficionado.
