“I had an interest around 6th grade to start doing my sister’s and her friend’s hair. But professionally, I started 6 years ago in Los Angeles, CA. Now I work at Andy LeCompte Salon in West Hollwood, CA. My favorite Life Ball moment was seeing Naomi Campbell working.”

“I am from Riverside, California. I got started in hair while in high school. I went to school in the morning and cosmetology school in the afternoon. I started professionally doing hair right after high school. The best moment for me in every Life Ball is seeing the finished show on the runway. Anita Pallenberg is my all time hair icon.”

Gregory Alan

I’ve been a licensed hair stylist for 6 years, but grew up in my mother’s salon. My signature style would be that of texture loose romantic braids and shapes created raw and organic. (The people) who inspire me most are my colleagues. We all work so hard and creatively. Working at Life Ball is like a (being) in a gigantic hive. Swarming with talent. Each artist with their own uniqueness and skill.

“I knew I was going to be a hairstylist from a very young age. I was inspired by a stylist Jose Ebar. When I’d see him on TV doing all the makeovers, I thought to myself, I wanted to be like him one day. But it wasn’t until I moved to San Francisco in 2000, was I able to make my dreams come true. I’ve been with the Life Ball team for the last 4 years, and working with Danilo and the team of hairstylist inspires me so much, and when we come together it truly is something magical.

One of my favorite moments of Life Ball was the year we got rained out. It was so hot, and the storm was so intense, but we worked up to the last second. The energy of the storm and what we were doing was wild.”

Danilo inspired me to see hair differently than the average person and I naturally moved to New York in 1989 to work with him. My hair icon of all time would have to be Diana Ross.”

“I got started with Vidal Sassoon. My favorite Life Ball moment was when we got rained out 3 years ago and everyone made the best of it. My favorite signature hairstyle is anything Sassoon. The worst is Ombre applied color. Fashion and history inspires me. Danilo plays a big part in my love for hair.”

Karina Vega

“I started doing hair as a teenager, getting my sisters and friends ready for school dances. I went to cosmetology school right after.

My favorite Life Ball moment has to be when I’m backstage assisting Danilo with the models, just before they walk the runway. It’s such amazing energy back there, and to see everyones contribution meld together, to create such a amazing show is spectacular!

I’m known for giving big bouncy hair with lots of dry texture.

Danilo Dixion inspires me…nature, watching others work and being creative, I like to observe children and teenagers. They always have a fun modern twist to how they wear their hair.”

I’ve recently come across a phrase that has made me think more deeply; and I try to think of it each day. It goes like this… ‘ The rewards you receive in life will always be in exact proportion to the service you give in life.’ I think that is so true.”
