Manchester, England, United Kingdom (AHN) – If you haven’t changed your hair style in years, don’t worry. Like most trends, if you wait long enough it will probably come back in style.
Researchers from the KNH Centre of Biomedical Egyptology at the University of Manchester have found that ancient Egyptians styled their hair like Marilyn Monroe and singer Rihanna.
The scientists’ studies of male and female mummies also revealed that the fashion conscious Egyptians also used a fat-based “gel” to keep their tresses in place. It is believed they used the product both in life and death, to keep corpses looking well and prepared for the afterlife.
Many Egyptians curled their hair with thongs and even used plaited extensions to lengthen their locks. There were many different styles and lengths worn by all ages and sexes, the study concluded.
The findings were published in the Journal of Archeological Study.
