Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) – Oscar doesn’t just celebrate the best in films, it also features the best and the worst in fashion. But even with all the elegant gowns and some questionable tastes on the red carpet, there are just two who stood out: Amy Adams with her $1.35 million jewelry and the unpredictable fashion of Helena Bonham Carter.
The Best Supporting Actress nominees, who both lost out to Melissa Leo, stood out among their peers on the red carpet Sunday night with the help of Amy’s very expensive bauble and Helena’s special show of patriotism.
Amy sparkled in her purple L’Wren Scott cap-sleeved gown, but it was her $1.35 million diamond and emerald jewelry set that really shone.
According to People magazine, her Cartier platinum and diamond Haute Joaillerie secret watch bracelet, worth a whopping $1.025 million, has 30.75 carat carved emerald and 575 diamonds, while her platinum and diamond 2-carat stud earrings are worth $35,000. She was also sporting a Cartier platinum and diamond necklace with 33.24-carat emerald worth $290,000.
Bonham Carter previously warned that she would be a “catastrophe” on the red carpet of the Kodak Theater, but she surprisingly toned it down a bit. Fashion critics were expecting “The King’s Speech” star to wear something mismatched and shocking, but she surprised them by donning black.
Although her demure black gown was nowhere near best-dressed fashion, it was still a far cry from her usually wacky style.
She told Ryan Seacrest, “I got together with our costume designer Colleen Atwood and thought it would be nice to celebrate film rather than fashion.”
Still, it wouldn’t be Helena without splashing a bit of color in her outfit. She raised her skirt high enough to reveal a Union Jack garter on her right leg.
