Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) – The Oscars is conducting a dress-designing contest, and it wants the public to vote for the entered designs.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is inviting the public to vote which of the dresses entered by aspiring fashion designers should be worn by one of the Awards escorts during the 83rd Academy Awards on February 27.
The “Oscars Designer Challenge 2011” sees nine up-and-coming designers vying to have their original evening gown design worn by one of the escorts in the prestigious awards show. They will be introduced to members of the fashion and entertainment press on February 15 at the Academy’s headquarters in Beverly Hills.
The participating designers are:
- Angela Avanesyan, Los Angeles
- Katelyn Bischof, New York
- Octavio Carlin, Los Angeles
- Miriam Cecilia Carlson, Chicago
- James De Colon, Chicago
- Zoe Hong, Oakland, CA
- Borris Powell, Chicago
- Natalia Romano, Los Angeles
- Clay Sadler, Los Angeles
They have been paired with L.A.-based models, who will be prepped up by a team of expert hairstylists from Roy Teeluck Salon and the ceremony’s head makeup artist, Bruce Grayson.
One of the models will wear the winning gown at the event as she brings the Oscar statuettes on stage. Shoes by Stuart Weitzman and jewelry by Jay Carlile, Diamond in the Rough and Gabriele Frantzen will complete the sartorial ensemble.
Voting will begin February 15 and conclude on the 21st at Oscar.com. The winning design will be announced during the Oscars Red Carpet Live special on Feb. 27, while the designer behind the dress will receive two tickets to attend the ceremony.
There will also be a Web series that documents the competition starting February 16. The “Oscars Designer Challenge: Behind the Dress” can be viewed daily on the website until February 20th, while a recap episode with an interview with the winner can be viewed on the 28th.
