Los Angeles, CA, United States (CNS) – Before Joan Rivers and the rest of the Fashion Police tear into some of this year’s Golden Globes fashion worst, the truth is, for the most part, nearly everyone got it right. And if not, they at least made it interesting, with the assortment of dresses at this year featuring an assortment of color.
“Mad Men” girls Christina Hendricks and January Jones rocked red, while Angelina Jolie sported sparkling green. There was no clear cut color trends this year and that made this year’s color palette, well, all the more palatable.
You don’t knock a pregnant woman when she’s down and we’re not about to either. We thought the “Black Swan” star looked “Pretty in Pink” in her Victor & Rolf gown, which had a belly-friendly waist and a rose detail. Blush was the right color for the blushing mama-to-be.
Yes, sometimes you just want her to look awful but when you think she’ll at least be predictable, she radiates in an emerald green gown from Atelier Versace. The look seems familiar but the color seems all new for the usually all-black wearing star.
The blonde “Mad Men” star usually looks gorgeous but uninteresting. But in this red Versace dress, we’d be rushing to cast in her the femme-fatale role immediately. With skin showing in all the right/wrong places yet sporting classic hair and jewelry, January looked hotter than the month of August in this look.
The new “American Idol” judge looks good in anything, we know, and while she did fierce for plenty of years, she was looking soft and sweet in a white Zuhair Murad gown with silk chiffon and tulle. If we were at the judges table, we’d say she’s still hitting all the right notes.
The soon-to-be Oscar host looked absolutely statuesque in a Giorgio Armi Privé gown. Complete with big shoulders and a lot of sparkles, Hathaway looked absolutely golden in bronze.
Helena Bonham Carter
We already know Helena Bonham Carter is going to dress kooky, so we’ll say she’s the best of the worst. And you know it’s going to be interesting when Vivienne Westwood is in on the joke, adding tulle in places it had no business being. But although the different colored mismatched shoes were a bit much, we love how far she’s willing to go to not conform.
Unlike how Natalie Portman looked pretty in pink, the “Glee” star took a page out of the 80’s movie for her overly-frilled, overly ruffled, overly-done Oscar de la Renta gown. Complete with sideways ponytail, this one deserves a slushy to the face.
The “Blue Valentine” star looked like Mia Farrow right out of “Rosemary’s Baby,” but not in a good way. With a daisy-printed Valentino dress, Williams looked up “Dawson’s Creek” without a paddle.
While she hit some of the Best lists with this look, we think the new Gwen Stacy must have been smoking Mary Jane when she decided on this look. With her formerly bold red hair now a subdued blond, light make-up, and peach Calvin Klein gown, the girl just looked beige.
Scarlett Johansson/Sandra Bullock
The former kissing gal pals received the”kiss of death” of style at this year’s awards, with the former Mrs. Ryan Reynolds’ out-there hair distracting an already matronly Elie Saab gown. Meanwhile, Reynolds’ rumored new flame Bullock brought back the bangs on the wrong night. The Jenny Packham dress was nice, but we needed a different head on it.
