Miami, FL, United States (AHN) – Funkshion: Fashion Week Miami is coming up soon – Oct. 20th through the 24th. Miami Beach will be showing spring and summer collections at the Setai Hotel and Bass Museum in South Beach this year.
Funkshion’s goal for Fashion Week Miami is to fuse fashion with music and art while showcasing 20 designers’ spring/summer 2011 collections. Along with runway shows, there will also be a Fashion Group International (FGI) Emerging Designers Competition – this is the fourth annual competition which will have two winners, one for menswear and one for womenswear.
The week kicks off on Wednesday, Oct. 20 with a cocktail reception at 8 inside the Setai Hotel, followed by the Flora and Fauna and Krel runway shows, then an afterparty. The fashion festivities continue the next night with the Emerging Designers Competition and the American Heart Association’s Red Dress Campaign show at the Bass Museum. Presented by Perry Ellis, the Go Red For Women runway show will start at 8 pm, and 100 percent of ticket sales will go to the American Heart Association.
On Saturday, Oct. 23 the Juwan Howard Foundation will have a children’s fashion show featuring multiple designers to benefit the foundation itself. The foundation provides assistance for a better education, expanded recreational opportunities, moral support and encouragement to inner city children.
A closing party will be hosted by Richie Rich, a co-founder of the fashion label Heatherette, on Saturday night, but the final fashion event is Sunday, Oct. 24. The Shop Miami Beach event will go on Saturday and Sunday, from noon until 6 pm, at the Bass Museum. Retailers from around Miami are participating, and those who attend will be able to buy items from several different designers, retailers and different collections for spring/summer 2011.
