New York City, NY, United States (AHN) – After being in business for 25 years, Ralph Lauren opened a men’s only store. But it’s not just housed in any brick and mortar building or storefront – it’s Lauren’s own Madison Avenue mansion.
Lauren renovated his Madison Avenue mansion, at 867 Madison Avenue, into a full-blown men’s apparel and accessories store. The first floor is dedicated to ties, shoes and watches; the second floor houses custom- made-to-measure boots, men can find Polo Ralph Lauren and RRL apparel on the third floor and the fourth floor has Ralph Lauren’s Black Label apparel and accessories in the RLX shop.
The former Rhinelander Mansion and former Polo Ralph Lauren flagship store becoming men’s only is following the trend of more men’s only stores from upscale designers: Hermes opened its first men’s only store in Manhattan, also off Madison Avenue, and J. Crew has signed a lease for its fourth men’s only store, also in New York.
Why the sudden rise in men’s only stores? The women’s market is saturated, and many retailers tried the kids’ market (J. Crew) and most failed, so men’s only is their attempt to expand and grow, according to research at Store.org.
