Paul Costelloe makes menswear worthy of a mention. Normally menswear consists of the same smattering of suits, pants and shirts with little variations. Costelloe gives life to menswear in ways we’ve seen few designers work. While his women’s collection is not as strong, it’s definitely worthy of praise. Costelloe this season plays with pastels and muddies some of them to put together an aesthetically pleasing collection filled with sophistication and vibrancy in terms of shape. If the women’s collection falls short anywhere it’s in the pairing. For example Costelloe pairs a navy blazer with a black and white floral print dress. This is an easily forgivable offense were it not for the fact that the dress itself is simply beautiful on it is own merits. Adding the blazer detracted from the entire piece. But this egregious mistake is an aberration and by no means makes up the entire collection. A particular favorite is an accordion bottomed dress that falls right an inch and a half above the knee for a sexy, flirty look.
Paul Costelloe’s collection is a win for Spring 2011 collection save for a few slight mishaps.
