New York, NY, United States (AHN) – The fashion industry has been recovering from a bad economy, and some designers at New York Fashion Week have been showing clothes that might reflect that fact with recession friendly-neutrals and less flash: nude, cream, blush and light coral neutrals and transparency and sheer fabrics seemed to be the theme of a lot of designers. In addition, easy to wear, no-fuss pieces seem to be the theme of Spring 2011.
Shows and parties people are buzzing about so far are Catherine Malandrino, Rebecca Taylor, Zac Posen and Tommy Hilfiger.
The fashion started outdoors at the Grande Promenade at Lincoln Center, where there was an outdoor “runway” for Catherine Malandrino’s show. Models stood on pedestals wearing sheer drapes and embroidered thigh-high sandals for the outdoor audience.
Zac Posen launched his Z Spoke line, a relaxed sportswear line, and had model of the moment Crystal Renn, walk in a yellow jumpsuit. Renn was a former supermodel who famously remade herself into a “plus size model” because she is the average American woman’s weight.
Tommy Hilfiger celebrated 25 years of his classic American line with a party at the Met Sunday night. A large “TH” constructed in LCD screens embedded in ivy marked the entrance to the Hilfiger party. The Strokes performed, quite a feat considering the band hasn’t played live together in four years. Celebrities who attended Hilfiger’s show included Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lopez and Christina Hendricks.
Rebecca Taylor, who came all the way from England for New York fashion week, launched her runway show at the Hudson Terrace. She debuted her Spring 2011 collection to guests including actress Shenea Grimes and Carmen Electra. Following the event, Taylor celebrated with friends, including many guests such as Grimes and Electra, as well as Ramona Singer, at Hudson Terrace following her show.
While so far designers’ collections have been well-received, the change of venue has been well-received, as well. This is New York’s first Fashion Week at the Lincoln Center, and not at Bryant Park.
