The Westin New York at Times Square is proud to announce the sponsorship of an eco-couture exhibit during Fashion Week. Fashion enthusiasts, local New Yorkers, and hotel guests will enjoy a complimentary viewing of dresses from the House of Tammam, the eco-friendly, UK-based brand that specializes in evening wear and bridal gowns, Sept. 10 through 12.
The ethical beliefs of hotel and designer are aligned, as The Westin New York at Times Square currently boasts a GS-33 Lodging Properties Silver certification from Green Seal™, and was the first hotel in the state of New York to be recognized by the organization, and the first Westin Hotel worldwide to earn silver status. The hotel was also one of only three hotels in New York City named to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s list of environmentally sound hotels with sustainable practices.
The award-winning House of Tammam has already gained respect in the fashion industry as one of the most innovative and ethically correct brands. All garments are fair trade, ethically produced, sustainable, vegetarian and environmentally-friendly. House of Tammam is a member of the Bel Esprit Showroom, the online showroom for internationals designers of ethical fashion.
In addition to the public display in the hotel’s lobby, Tammam is showcasing at the Ethical Fashion Preview at Nolcha Fashion Week in New York and the London Fashion Lounge in London, both produced in association with the Bel Esprit Showroom, and at the new EcoLuxe showroom for London Fashion Week. Nolcha Fashion Week is an award-winning fashion week event now in its ninth season held simultaneously with New York Fashion Week. Consisting of four days of runway shows, eco-accessory exhibitions, fashion business seminars, and networking events, Nolcha Fashion Week has emerged as a solid platform and a reputable outlet for showcasing top-tier and globally-minded designers.
Tammam’s focus this season is occasion and evening wear to compliment the launch of the ethical bridal wholesale collection (available in January from select bridal boutiques in the UK and USA.) Key pieces this season include cascading gowns in taffeta and subtly draped dresses with slight trains suitable for any important occasion. As always, the perfectly cut, immaculately tailored, beautifully designed garments are inspired by 1930’s glamour, and this season sees the use of lovingly restored vintage lace matched with luxe silks and organic cottons in cuts that accentuate the female body.
Tammam was launched in September 2007, and designs and produces fashion-forward women’s wear. Tammam develops fabrics in India and Nepal using natural and sustainable fibers and dyes. The Tammam eco-couture collection is available bespoke from the Tammam Atelier, while the made-to-order and prêt a porter ranges are available from selected boutiques. Tammam is a founding member of the Conscious Designer’s Collective (www.consciousdesigners.co.uk). For more information, visit www.tammam.co.uk and the Bel Esprit Showroom, www.belesprit.net.
