Paris, France (AHN) – Karl Lagerfeld has canceled his signature collection show during Paris Fashion Week. The show was scheduled to happen on October 3.
Instead, Lagerfeld’s representatives told Women’s Wear Daily that he will focus on a new collection called Masstige, based on the idea of “mass elitism”.
Lagerfeld’s signature line will assume a more commercial approach and the Chanel creative director will have less central involvement in the brand. He will instead concentrate on his new ready-to-wear range, which will be sold online and ready for the autumn/winter 2011 season.
Chanel representatives told WWD that negotiations are under way “for the distribution and production of the designer’s new vision” with his new collection.
Campaigns must go on, however. Keira Knightley is starring in the new Chanel campaign, and though the show is canceled, the campaign was recently shot in Paris. Knightley has been photographed shooting the campaign in the Place de Concord.
Knightley first starred as a Karl Lagerfeld muse for Chanel in 2006.
