Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – Like Madonna, Diddy, Beyonce, and Justin Timberlake before him, Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine is launching his own fashion line. The 31-year-old musician is partnering with his father for the family-run fashion business.
According to WWD, Levine’s first collection is called 222, and will be launching at the Projecttrade show in Las Vegas this week.
The line is in partnership with his father, Fred Levine, who is a veteran in the fashion retail business. The senior Levine has been operating a chain of specialty boutiques in L.A. called M. Frederic for more than 30 years.
His longtime stylist Aristotle Circa and his dad’s cousin, Sami Cooper, are also part of the venture. Cooper owns an apparel manufacturing facility that will produce 222.
The singer told WWD, “This is a family affair. What I wanted to avoid was the typical pitfalls that someone in my position can fall into. This is something grassroots. Most importantly, it’s something that I work on myself. I collaborate on and approve every single piece of clothing in the line.”
“I’m not just hawking something because I’m in a famous band.”
The collection is composed mainly of minimalistic line of jeans, t-shirts and leather jackets. Adam said it will be “very simple and pure and durable” and there will be “no bedazzling.”
“These days so much stuff looks like someone vomited all over it.”
There will be about 50 women’s styles, and 25 men’s styles in the first collection.
His dad Fred said, “There are no prints or embellishments in this line. It’s about the most comfortable fabrics and creating the most flattering silhouette possible.”
Asked why 222, Adam says it has always been his lucky number.
“It was the address of the recording studio where our band first recorded our demo and I have it tattooed on my left forearm.”
