New York, NY, United States (CNS) – Madonna’s tears were real. Designer Stefano Gabbana said that the pop superstar was really crying when she was shot for a photo from the Dolce & Gabbana spring 2010 collection photoshoot.
Gabbana revealed to W Magazine that the photo where Madonna was featured staring melancholically into a distance with tears streaming down her cheeks was unscripted. It turns out the 51-year-old singer shed tears after reading a letter from a loved one.
He said, “She was really crying! It wasn’t fake!”
The photos were shot in New York by Steven Klein. The rest of the pictures feature Madonna doing domestic tasks, including washing dishes and peeling fruits.
The Italian designer, who leads the brand with Domenico Dolce, originally feared asking the music icon to front their campaign since it could impact their friendship, which began in 1991.
He told the magazine, “Strangely enough, there was a sort of fear on our behalf of asking Madonna to do anything businessy. We thought it could impact our relationship, and Madonna is one of the few people we’re really in awe of.”
But in the end, it was a great call.
He continued, “To have Madonna in our campaign is a dream come true.”
