New York, NY, United States (CNS) – You know you like IKEA too much if you’re literally wearing it. But in these tough economic times, some fashionistas are getting creative and making dresses out of the lifestyle retailer’s shopping bags.
The Frakta bag, the large blue bag which usually houses items being shopped for in the store, can be made into a dress. Adriana of IKEA Hacker shows how a 59cent bag and easy sewing can be an outfit for some budget-conscious and fashionable IKEA lovers.
“I fashioned the top of the bag and one handle as the neckline and halter for the top of the dress. Then I cut open the seams of the rest of the bag to make a backless, A-Line outfit,” the dressmaker and Parsons School for Design student said. “I sewed darts in the front and back to be shapely for my bust and back. I cut the long handles off of two more bags to create ties for the back of the dress. Waterproof and ready to tote!”
“But really the dress is achievable with just one 59-cent bag and by jacking the handles from two more!” she says. Even if you don’t jack the other two handles, and its better if you don’t, the whole dress can be had for about $2.
