New York, NY (CNS) – Known for his incredible visual style, Tim Burton is bringing his quirky, gothic touch to the pages of Harper’s Bazaar. In a new fashion spread, he is pictured along with models posing in fashions inspired by his films like “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Edward Scissorhands,” and “Corpse Bride.”
In the new spread, which was shot in anticipation of his upcoming retrospective at New York’s Musem of Modern Art, Burton reimagines fall fashions with a dark twist. Among the designers who have their fashions featured in the macabre-style shoot are Versace, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Oscar de la Renta.
In the spread, Burton recalls “The Nightmare Before Christmas” when he suits up in a Sandy Claws pajama outfit next to a model in a flowing red Oscar de la Renta gown. In another outfit, a model evokes Lydia from “Beetlejuice” in a black Tao Comme des Garçons dress and shoes and a custom Salvatore Ferragamo coat. Another model brings the look of “Edward Scissorhands” to life in a Rodarte jacket and gloves, boots by Nicholas Kirkwood for Rodarte, and pants by Phi. The “Corpse Bride” awakens the spirits in a Ralph Lauren gown and cape.
The most bone-chilling part of Tim Burton’s fashion spread: the prices. To look like a “Corpse Bride” on your wedding day will set you back $15,000, while the head-to-toe “Edward Scissorhands” look has a price tag of about $12,000.
But Halloween costumes these are not, although the spread is perfect for the season. But with wicked pieces from designers like Chanel and Alexander McQueen, Tim Burton’s fashion spread in Harper’s is anything but bizarre.
