Milan, Italy (CNS) – Janet Jackson stepped out with Donatella Versace in a floor-length midnight blue gown designed by Donatella herself for the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) benefit, part of Milan Fashion Week in Italy. Jackson participated in an auction which raised a total of $1.1 million for the charity.
Among the items auctioned off were a pair of Swarovski crystal-studded boots owned by Michael Jackson, which he planned to wear as part of his London “This Is It” concerts. They went for a total $14,650.
A custom DSquared2 jacket signed by Janet Jackson was the subject of a bidding war between Kanye West and Diesel designer Renzo Russo. The leather jacket went to Russo for over $52,000.
“We are so grateful that you are opening your hearts and together we can realize our dream of a world without AIDS,” said Jackson at the event, who has previously won awards for her contributions to AIDS research.
“This battle needs all of us to be brave warriors,” she continued.
The event was Janet’s first appearance since her show-stopping tribute to late brother Michael Jackson at the MTV Video Music Awards. She recently released the song, “Make Me,” to radio and digital retailers.
