If you had to attach one word to Haleh Nematzadeh’s collection for Spring 2010, the most apropos would be daring. Daring because this designer threw all conventions to the wind and came with ideas you won’t likely see anywhere else during fashion week.
She mixed a soft feminine direction with an edgy punk 80s quality. The child of this soft/edgy pairing is a line that can be relaxed by day, while fashion forward and double/triple take looking by night. Is she really wearing a two tone black and white fringe vest and nothing else? Where are her pants? Who cares? It is sexy without being sleazy or having intentions of being something other than what you see.
Stand out pieces from the collection: the White Black Studded Collar boyfriend blazer, a hand hair airbrushed one shoulder tunic that was accompanied by the perfect Black Boy short white anke socks and a lace up bootie.
At one point Nematzadeh my have laid claim to being the heir apparent to Heatherette’s club legacy. At the end of the presentation, the lights went off and out came several glow in the dark pieces from the collection. Some might consider it gimmicky but those who do would be missing the point. It’s flash, fun and unmistakably rock n roll.
You want this designer to succeed with her Spring collection for a variety of reasons not the least of which is to know what exactly is coming next.
