Playing in the testosterone filled world of Quentin Tarantino may be a bit of a challenge for any costume designer. This becomes more of an issue when the world in question is occupied by Nazi killing Jews on a mission to work with a scalpel and leave a trail of blood behind. This is exactly what one can imagine costume designer Anna B. Sheppard dealt with when putting together the fashion ensemble for Tarantino’s latest work, Inglourious Basterds.

The film set to hit theaters Friday, August 21, 2009, is set against a backdrop of Nazi Uniforms, 40s melodrama and women whose power lie in intrigue. Sheppard used a myriad of designs that accurately reflect the period including 40s cocktail dresses, a leopard print dress with matching accessories a two piece red dress with square chest. No stranger to films dealing with the World War II period, Sheppard’s work includes the epic Schindler’s List which she was nominated for an Academy Award.

No costume designer’s work is complete without an excellent supporting cast. Tarantino has put together just such a cast for this film in Brad Pitt, Melanie Laurent, Diane Krugher (who plays Bridget von Hammersmark and hits the fashion mark when wearing the aforementioned red dress), Julie Dreyfus (remember her as Sophie Fatale in Kill Bill vol. 1) and Anne-Sophie Franck among the many others.
