Washington D.C. (CNS) – Celebrities are stepping up to help those affected by the earthquake that hit central Italy in April. Stars are donating their Ferragamo handbags along with a handwritten note, to benefit GlobalGiving’s Italy Earthquake Relief and Recovery Fund.
The handbags hit the auction block on June 2 on eBay. Stars such as Madonna, Jennifer Aniston, Eva Longoria, Demi Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow, Marisa Tomei and others have donated for the auction.
GlobalGiving.org will use the money to help rehabilitate the Abruzzo region, where over 300 people were killed and 1,000 were injured in the quake. Around 65,000 people in the area were also displaced and are still living in tent cities. The money raised will also help reestablish local markets to stimulate the local economy and provide other basics such as food, blankets and clothing. To bid on a bag from your favorite celebrity, go to eBay.com. The handbags are currently being auctioned online until June 12.
