London, England (CNS) – Marks & Spencer is celebrating its 125-year anniversary by turning back their prices too. The high street giant will stage a three-day penny bazaar selling a range of 20 products which can be bought for just one penny.
Three hundred M&S stores will take part in the celebrations and the range includes jewelry sets, scarves, purses and underwear as well as cufflinks, ties and socks. Other items up for grabs include leather passport holders and luggage tags, tea towels, mugs, retro sweets and drinks, beach toys and beach balls.
But bargain-hunters will only be allowed five items each. The company says it has around two million of the penny products available and the price tag is a suggested minimum donation for the items, Marie Claire reports.
All the money will go towards the company’s birthday charity, the 125 Charity Challenge. In anticipation of a flurry of eager customers, M&S has announced that extra security staff will be there to safeguard the mall.
Sir Stuart Rose, M&S’s chairman commented that the company started off in life as a penny bazaar back in 1884.
“So what better way to share our birthday with our customers than offering them the chance to choose M&S products for just one penny?’
Fashion model Twiggy, who fronts M&S’s advertising campaigns, will kick off the three day penny bazaar at the company’s flagship store in Oxford Street, London, on Wednesday morning.
