Paris, France (CNS) – Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fall 2009 runway show yesterday in Paris caused quite the commotion, but some was planned and some was not. The show included PETA protesters, two models engaged in a mud fight and models didn’t just strut, they did things to elicit applause from the audience.
Before the show even started, there were reportedly several anti-fur protestors across the street from the show shouting “Assassin!” for about 40 minutes. According to FashionWeekDaily.com, editors like Cindi Leive of Glamour magazine took off their fur coats and walked the blocks approaching the show without them.
“I didn’t want to take that chance,” Lieve said.
Inside, there was actually much less fur than Gaultier has shown in previous runway shows. Gaultier’s female models reportedly strutted in menswear, smoked cigarettes on the runway, smelled roses, anything to elicit excited applause from the crowd, according to Fashion Week Daily.
“This show was about a dark designer, where the audience had a peek but couldn’t touch!” Gaultier told the website. The show’s finale had Gaultier’s longtime muse Coca Rocha start a mud fight with French actress Bojana Panic in mud at the end of the runway while wearing full-on fur outfits.
FashionWeekDaily.com reported that they threw each other down in the mud and got their hair and clothes all muddy. S&M goddess Betony Vernon had to break up the “fight” onstage.
