London, England (CNS) – The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson has come to the rescue of recession-hit fashion designers. In an attempt to attract the world’s top buyers to attend the London Fashion Week, Johnson has pledged to spend Ł40,000 (approx $57,000), Vogue.com reports.
Equating the fashion industry to any other creative industries that plays an important role in London’s economic success, Boris said that it is “essential we do everything we can to support the fashion industry.”
“Our aim is to protect its global reputation as a hotbed of world class established and emerging design talent and also as a dynamically inventive and cutting edge destination,” he added. The investment by Johnson will be used to fund the trips of 30 key buyers to the capital and used on airline tickets and accommodations.
Johnson, who is supporting Fashion Week through the London Development Agency, believes that paying for the travel costs ahead of the beginning of the event on Friday will act as a boost for London’s economy.
