Los Angeles, CA (CNS) – Adidas has roped in David Beckham and Missy Elliot to appear in its new advertising campaign for the Originals fashion line. The ad which also featured Russell Simmons dancing at a party was launched at Christmas in the U.S.
Keeping pace with the increasing sales of trendy sports apparel and shoes, Adidas is now going global in January with ads for its Originals fashion brand. The sports brand is now shooting its first mass-market advertising campaign in 60 years.
The Originals line up has an impressive housing within the company, making up for 20 percent of their overall sales. Its competitors Reebok and Skechers have already established themselves into fashionable labels for athletes.
“Teens still want something that is fashionable and deals with innovation,” Simon Atkins, director of U.S. marketing told the NY Times. The sports apparel manufacturer is vying for a bigger share of the sports apparel and footwear market, a $70.2 billion business in the U.S. this year, tracker NPD Group says.
