New York, NY (CNS) – New York designer Donna Karan announced over the weekend that she has dropped fur from her collections. Karan, who has been protested by People For Ethical Treatment of Animal (PETA) released a statement saying, “There is no fur in any of our lines for Fall 2009, and we currently have no plans to use fur.”
The statement follows a personal appeal made last week on PETA’s behalf by Project Runway fashion guru Tim Gunn. Gunn hosts PETA’s new undercover fur video of rabbit and other fur farms, where animals are killed by poisoning, gassing, anal electrocution, or neck-breaking.
Following the move by the designer, PETA will drop plans to target her upcoming runway shows, confirmed PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews. Karan follows Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein who all recently stopped using fur and skins in their clothing lines.
