New York, NY (CNS) – Bill Blass has announced that the clothing label is closing. The label has been struggling for a while and has finally decided to close. The parent company for the label had attempted to sell the brand but was unsuccessful. The brand was then liquidated.
The company has canceled its Spring 2009 collection due to lack of cash. According to reports, the Seventh Avenue showroom will close its doors as soon as this Friday, leaving the 30 remaining employees in the unemployment line. Nexcen, the parent company still hopes to find a buyer that can revitalize the label.
Vera Wang is the latest designer to opt out of the Bryant park show. Wang has decided to show her Fall 2009 collection in a smaller venue–her Mercer Street store. Wang says the decision to downsize was not only due to saving money but she doesn’t want to seem unaware of what is going on in the rest of the world and a smaller show seems more appropriate.
Earlier in the week, Betsey Johnson and Carmen Marc Valvo canceled their shows. There is speculation that more designers will cancel their shows in the park and opt for smaller venues.
