Miami, FL (CNS) – Supermodel Niki Taylor has probably been on the cover of every woman’s magazine more than once but she’s getting ready to fill shoes that she hasn’t modeled in 14 years: new mom.
The 33-year-old beauty is expecting a new arrival in March, her third child but first with husband and NASCAR driver Burney Lamar, who she married in December of 2006. “I’m so excited. It’s been a long time. It’s like starting all over.” Her twins, Hunter and Jake, are now 14 years old. Taylor also said that she doesn’t see herself relegating the twins to much babysitting duty. “I’m only having one this time so I want him all to myself,” she said, flashing her famous smile.
She already knows the sex of the baby, though she won’t reveal it, and left the name-picking to Lamar. “That’s my husband’s job. I know the name too but I don’t want to say anything yet,” she said. Taylor was away from the spotlight for a few years, choosing motherhood over modeling work and moving to Nashville to raise her children. She only made headlines for her very serious car accident in 2001, which left the model in a near-death coma. She has undergone over 30 surgeries to reach her incredible recovery.
Earlier this year, she joined the ranks of Tyra Banks and Heidi Klum of supermodels-turned-reality television stars when she hosted Bravo’s Make Me A Supermodel, a modeling competition where viewers were able to vote for the winner of $100,000 and a modeling contract. A new season starts early next year but Taylor revealed that she won’t be a part of it. “There is a second season but I’m not doing it. I’m not in it. I live in Nashville and I was on a plane two times a week and I’m pregnant now. It was a lot of flying for me,” she said.
“They decided to take the show in a more… not risque… but.. just a little more.. I’m just not good at telling people how to look or act or be,” she said. “It was a great season. I don’t know how the second season will be but I’ll definitely watch it. Tyson’s still on it,” she said, referring to male supermodel and co-host Tyson Beckford.
But did she have a good experience hosting the first season of the Bravo show? “I liked it. I mean, reality television isn’t reality television but it definitely makes for great TV,” she said.
Though Taylor may not have felt as comfortable as Tyra in judging fierceness, she does look up to her supermodel peers for their turn from the runway to running an empire. “They own their own brand. That’s the way to go,” she said. “Ultimately, I want to own my brand. I would love to get into home goods. I love decor, I love decorating. I love the home,” she said.
With her new baby arriving in a few months, it looks like Niki Taylor will choose home again over Hollywood.
