Beaverton, OR (CNS) – Nike has teamed up with NBA’s star Kobe Bryant to unveil its lightest basketball shoe ever, with a new low cut design weighing in at a mere 11.6 ounces. The Nike Zoom Kobe IV, which was unveiled Thursday, is Bryant’s fourth signature shoe.
According to Nike officials, the ten-time NBA superstar demanded a shoe that was lowcut and even lighter than the revolutionary Nike Hyperdunk (13 ounces). What resulted was the breakthrough innovation that “raises the basketball footwear bar to the next level.”
Nike Performance Footwear Creative Director Eric Avar said in a press release that the new shoe is built on the same pattern as that of Nike Hyperdunk, using Flywire. The technology uses thin and very strong nylon fibers to support the foot in the upper part.
The use of LunarLite foam in the forefoot makes it the most innovative cushioning system since Nike Air in addition to a Nike Zoom unit in the heel, and a full-length Phylon midsole.
The Nike Zoom Kobe IV will be available at retail in China beginning January 1, 2009, and throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe beginning early February 2009.
