London, England (CNS) – English fashion designer Luella Bartley has been named Designer of the Year at the prestigious British Fashion Awards in London.
The 34-year-old former journalist, who had been a fashion editor of British Vogue and Dazed & Confused, was recognized for her distinctive style at the awards gala at Lawrence Hall, Westminster.
Other award recipients include hat-maker Stephen Jones for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design, shoe designer Jimmy Choo for the Designer Brand award, Matthew Williamson for Red Carpet Designer, and Christopher Bailey for Menswear Designer of the Year.
The Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator was given to photographer Tim Walker.
Two new awards were also created to celebrate British fashion’s new generation of designers: the Emerging Talent award for ready to wear, which went to Louise Goldin, and the Emerging Talent award for accessories, which went to Nicholas Kirkwood.
The Swarovski-sponsored gala was flocked by celebrities, including supermodel Claudia Schiffer, Erin O’Connor, and pop singer Sophie Ellis Bextor.
Last year’s Designer of the Year recipient was Stella McCartney.
