Barbie Plans Ahead For 50th Birthday
El Segundo, CA (CNS) – Barbie is turning 50 and she a lot of things planned on that milestone occasion. Parent company Mattel Inc. will be celebrating the 11.5″ tall fashionista’s birthday in 2009.
The plastic doll, who was given the birth name of Barbara Millicent Roberts, will have a new range of beauty products launched in her honor next year. Mattell will also embark on a three-year deal with the Council of Fashion Designers of America and sponsor the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York.
Also in the pipeline, fifty designers will be producing Barbie-inspired life-size garments, as well as collaborations with Vera Wang, to produce a Barbie-size and life-size wedding gown, and Jeremy Scott, to create a capsule collection inspired by the doll.
Mattel also plans to open a House of Barbie in Shanghai, China, WWD reports.
