Nassau, Bahamas (CNS) — When you think of the Bahamas, you think lush beaches, relaxation and…runways? Well, you will if the first ever Islands of the World Fashion Week is anywhere near as successful as its Milan, London or Paris counterparts. Taking place on November 5th through the 8th in the Bahamas, Islands of the World Fashion Week will bring together designers from diverse island nations as well as special guests that’ll have you thinking less Coppertone and more couture. The events will take place the Atlantis Resort in Paradise Island and the British Colonial Hilton in Nassau.
Showcasing everything from runway high fashion to swimwear and accessories, the Islands of the World Fashion Week will feature 38 designers from countries such as Fiji, Cuba, Jamaica and even Madagascar. This does not include the three international special guest designers, including Nick Verreos from the 2nd season of Project Runway. He will be on hand, like many of the other designers, to debut his Spring 2009 Collection. American fashion designer Kenneth Cole will be the recipient of the Humanitarian Designer Award for his contributions to AIDS awareness and philanthropy efforts.
Islands of the World Fashion Week will include a lavishing opening and closing gala, as well as plenty of runway shows and pre-show events. The event also looks to promote world issues including diversity, the environment, poverty and AIDS education. It is also endorsed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization, also known as UNESCO.
