    Bora Aksu

Styled by one of my favourite girls out there, Leith Clark of Lula Magazine, Bora Aksu’s SS09 collection has to be up there with the best of them. Entitled ‘Picnic At The Hanging Rock’ the inspiration for the shapes came from 50’s couture dresses, using their stiff outlines. Turning garments inside out, we could see the intricate framework used inside the dresses structures, on the outside. Classic music struck the note for the show, as out paraded feminine, soft and sensual ballerina esq maidens. Their hair was tied up with a plait in a neat, dancer inspired style, and the makeup was clean and fresh. Blush coloured tulle, tied with ribbons made up dresses, in sheer layers- with a body con underlay in white. The shoes had bows attached, in the whitest white. Peach satin was constructed into a blazer jacket, with ribbon ties, thrown over a black jersey dress. Puffball skirts in lemon yellow and black mesh paraded past, while bonnets were worn as headpieces, from the milliner Misa Harada. Shimmering silver fabrics were made into tailored shirts, tucked into high waisted skirts in soft plums and apple greens. Dusty, faded colours were used throughout giving it a feminine, romantic feel. A giant black ruffle dress, embellished with gold hoops and a mesh neckline was sexy and girlie. To finish a black fishtail coat, with a veil over the models face, lent a slightly darker slant on the show, but still in an Aksu way. Amazing!
