LA Fashion Week No More?
Speculation is rampant that after October’s shows IMG’s association with LA Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios may be a thing of the past. The rumors started when blog LAMag.com posted an article stating that unnamed sources were looking at the possibility of an LA Fashion Week without the participation of IMG. Overall attendance at the event has been respectable but nowhere near the numbers of the crown jewel of IMG’s fashion empire, New York. When approached by LAMag.com and IMG spokesperson did not comment on the rumor saying, “The focus of IMG and Smashbox continues to be the October shows and we won’t comment further on what is currently only rumor and speculation.”
Several upstarts are looking to take the place of IMG Fashion week in LA in case the event does leave the city of Angels after October. Reveal Los Angeles is one of the possible heirs of the event. IDG is looking to bring ” REVEAL Los Angeles…The Fashion & Design Event” during the weekend of March 20 -22. Another idea according to LAMag would move fashion week to Hollywood, put together by a group of fashion publicists and event producers. Decisions will be made after October, but the silence on the part of IMG may speak volumes about whether LA Fashion Week continues in its current form.
