Opening the box of clothes from German designer Bo Van Melskens was like Christmas come early. Each piece more exciting than the next, the combination of impeccable cut and tailoring, shapes created from slippery lurex and rigid silks.
After enveloping my self in the collection, I wanted to create a shoot, using almost exclusively their designs, as I thought it would be both beautiful and thought provoking. Designed by Danish Designer Sarah Elbo, the designs come from the creative hubbub that is Berlin, where she both lives and works.
A collection based on a specific story, who central character, Bo, a feminine dandy, serves as Elbo’s muse and inspiration from the label’s clothes, stories and music. Snapshots of her life attest to her wild side, unpretentious glamour, joie de vivre and a touch of melancholy.
Elbo herself describes the collection ‘as made up from body-hugging to outrageously oversized, shades of pastel yellow and pale pink meet deep olive and black’. Classic Jackie O style meets futurist, spacey flavours. Balloon shapes, quirky details, zips and intricate motif designs give the clothes both depth and huge originality. Dreamy, unique, feminine and classic all rolled into one label; I am dying to see the SS09 collection!
