Hollywood has it’s walk of fame and many stars from today and yesteryear have graced the sidewalks in Los Angeles as a result. New York has had it’s own walk of fame and it’s dedicated to what New York does best: fashion. Many have graced the walk of fame including Calvin Klein, Geoffrey Beene, Ralph Lauren, Claire McCardell and many others. Joining them this year and for the first time in five years, will be Diane von Furstenberg and Liz Claiborne. Furstenberg has been a fashion industry stalwart creating designs for decades as well as leading fashion’s main organizing body in the US, the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Liz Claiborne, who died last year, is being given the award posthumously for over 3 decades of work in the fashion industry. Her presence still looms large in the fashion industry with her successful company and licensing.
Humbled by the award, Diane von Furstenberg said, “A little bit over three decades ago, I came to New York with a few little dresses I had made in a tiny suitcase and a child in my belly. I was terrified of Seventh Avenue.”
“It’s an honor to get this from the very neighborhood that intimidated me so much.”
