Bill Blass’ parent company was already in trouble with news of a liquidity problem. But news of Peter Som’s departure from Bill Blass has hastened industry scuttlebutt that the company may be on the fast road to the chopping block. Som’s quick resignation may have been come from a combination of tepid reviews for his collections at Blass and the decision by NexCen to go with an editorial presentation as opposed to a standard runway show. The designer was only at the fashion house for a year before he decided to leave and concentrate on his own collection. Vogue UK notes that Som in contractually obligated to stay with the company until shortly after his Spring/Summer 2009 showing. Where that leaves the brand after that point is still up in the air.
