The outlandish, the impossible, the utterly unimaginable take center stage during Couture Fashion Week in Paris. Designers unleash on the whatever has festered in their minds but could not find expression in commercial fashion weeks during the months of February/March and September/October. In the doldrums of Summer, French designers parade out whatever their imaginations allow them to create and this season is no different. Designers that range in name from Chanel, to Jean Paul Gaultier and everyone in between are pushing the limits with their creations. Gaultier in particular foisted on the world one of the most outlandishly beautiful wedding dresses in his presentation entitled “Positively Encaging”. The show’s last piece explains the origin of the name. The bridal piece contains a veil that seems to envelope the group within the loving clutches of the bride. Alessandra Facchinetti took the opportunity to show her first collection for the Valentino collection since the design house’s namesake relinquished the reins earlier this year. The press corps has been almost unanimous in its praise of Fachinetti’s direction for Valentino. Couture Fashion Week wraps up at the end of this week.
