With Men’s fashion week going on in Paris right now the AFP has a news article highlighting the recent surge of female inspired touches on men’s clothing. While it’s no secret that a blind poll of men’s designers may find that there’s an overlap with designer who create items for women, there may be more behind the trend. Men’s fashion has always been considered stodgy and old in comparison to the work that is done for women’s clothing. Women have the option of wearing dresses, skirts, pants, cropped pants, blouses, and many other variations on design. Men are relegated to the pants, shirt and occasional polo. Paris and Milan may be looking to change that overall trend by providing items such as wedges, infusion of traditionally female hues such as fuschia, pink while also providing tight thighed pants. John Galliano has broken out the kilts for men, pants be damned. Will the trend of feminine fashions for men become part of a new successful wave? Time and the cash registers will tell.
