There is a recent surge of Black Pride going on in Milan as evidenced by the recent Italian Vogue issue that featured mostly black models and an homage to black culture including reference to Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Mohammed Ali. At the same time Donatella Versace dedicating her show to Barack Obama did not go unnoticed by the press screaming diversity to anyone who will listen. Design house Dsquared took it to another level by having a men’s show that featured nothing but black male models. The diversity in fashion argument hit a fever pitch last year and the reverberations seems to be having an effect on the industry now. The July issue of Vogue magazine featured a retrospective on African American models and word about upcoming fashion shows in Paris with black models are also making the rounds. The diversity is also looking to touch on other ethnically diverse models including Asian and Hispanic/Latin models.
