Tomas Maier’s obsession with high quality luxury may have netted him more work with a recent accolade. The creative force behind Bottega Veneta led the brand to beating out rivals Hermes and Valentino. New York-based Luxury Institute’s 2008 Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI) has awarded the label the top spot in it’s rankings and the honor comes amid a recent spate of success including higher sales for the company.
The timeless, classic quality of Maier’s design is what LBSI finds most luxurious about the label. Milton Pedraza, ceo of the Luxury Institute explained the results by stating that “This year’s ratings indicate that wealthy women are highly discerning, perhaps to a fault…Wealthy women rate Bottega Veneta a rare gem in a world of homogenising brands.” He continues, “Quality is becoming an issue as many luxury brands accelerate outsourcing production to countries where the art of handcrafting is merely a production run and in a world where Zara, H&M and even Target have great styling and good quality”
