LL Cool J always keeps his hat on or so that was the case many years ago. That being the case it would make sense that he wears many hats. Some of his past exploits include rapper, charity spokesperson (camp Cool J), actor and now fashion designer for Sears. In an effort to work what perhaps may be the greatest miracle ever in the fashion industry, Cool J is looking to prove that this hat fits well. Indeed he tells Women’s Wear Daily that his Cool J line for the department store was created because he is so familiar with women (this was not tongue in cheek). He states matter of factly that he
“…was raised by a matriarch, I have a wife and three daughters, so I know what women are looking for when they shop for clothes…My main concern with juniors is to make sure the fit is right. The fabrics have to feel nice on a woman’s body, but sizing and fit are very important. I know that if she comes in, puts it on and it doesn’t fit, she won’t come back. Clothes have to make a woman feel good, relaxed and sexy. We are going to be constantly looking at fine-tuning the fit and we’ll get it right.”
The difficulty in reading the tea leaves is whether the fickle, name brand aware urban junior can support the Cool J line in of all places Sears. Not traditionally known as a fashion destination, Sears is stepping into unknown territory, but is happy to do so with a marquee name like LL.
