Fashion Designer Launches Jews Against Obama Line
Meghan Hart
Fashion designer Doron Braunshtein, better known as Apollo Braun to New York City’s East Villagers and Lower East Side residents, has decided to launch a fashion line protesting Barack Obama’s candidacy for President. Braunshtein, a fixture in the community, known for his outrageous celebrity frequented store and even more outlandish designs (see dresses with naked barbie dolls hanging from the chest) is no stranger to controversy. He recently published a book entitled America, my whore and is in the process of putting an album out with a raunchy play on the Hebrew song Hava Nagila.
Braunshtein’s in a statement released to the press, outlines the reason for putting out the shirt besides the obvious publicity it would generate. In it he states that:
“I am a true anti-Obama New York Jew. The word on the street is that New York Jews will vote for McCain anyhow. The majority of the Jews - at least the ones that are proud of their religion and practice it - like me, don’t want to see Obama- a man who’s middle name is Hussein, and his family from his Kenyan father’s side is Muslim, as the leader of this great country. More than that, after Obama’s pastor, Jeremiah Wright, honored Louis Farrakhan- definitely one of the most racist and anti-Semitic people alive - Obama lost us Jews totally. That made me start this political movement in the first place.”
The jury is out on whether Doron Braunshtein’s line and for that matter, his movement will catch fire with Jews everywhere, but for the moment, his shirts are doing brisk business and he’s managed to sign-up 1,374 members (all Jews according to the designer) to his cause.
