Chicago fashion week has come apart at the seams according to The Chicago Tribune. Although the affair is held by a different organization than the one run in the Fall (the City runs the fall event), this one was no less representative of the city. The Tribune reports that word of trouble began to spread early on when the largest sponsor Mastercard pulled out of the event. The event organizer and director, Mackett Hidalgo let the designers know earlier this week that the event was being canceled due to a lack of ticket sales. Hidalgo told the Tribune that the event was not canceled, rather it was postponed due to four of the designers who were based overseas could not come to the US due to tax issues.
Chicago Fashion week’s name was used by Hidalgo earlier than the city’s own event Fashion Focus Chicago which adds to the confusion. That event is scheduled to go off without the problems encountered by the Chicago Fashion Week people.
